435U-Plates can be used to lower or raise your '68-'79 Bay. Installation is a pretty straight forward operation. Here are a few steps/pix to help aide in the process. This is by no means a complete step by step procedure. Please note all pix show the lowering process on the RIGHT (passenger side) of the vehicle.

    1. Get your Bay up on jack stands and remove your rim and rear shocks.
    2. Remove the four bolts that connect the bearing housing, spring plate and torsion arm. Spring plate and torsion arm stay in the stock position.
    3. Reposition the bearing housing so that the bottom two holes of the housing are now lined up with the top two holes of the spring plate and torsion arm. Secure parts with two of the stock bolts as shown below...
    4. Keep these two bolts loose... as this will help to align the remaining mounting bolts. It can be a little tricky getting everything to line up, but have patience... last thing you want to do is cross thread a bolt hole. A center punch or screw driver is a great tool to help align the holes.
    5. Install U-Plate as shown below.... Mount the top of the U-Plate to the bearing housing with one of the stock bolts and the short bolt supplied with the U-Plates.
    6. Mount the bottom of the U-Plate to the spring plate and torsion arm with the stock bolt and the long bolt supplied with the U-Plates.
    7. Once the U-Plate is in position tighten all bolts!
    8. The e-brake cable can be routed several different ways. Depends on how low you set your ride height and what rims/tires you are using. There is a hole in the U-Plate for routing the cable, if needed. You will need to drill a hole in the spring plate to utilize this hole.
    9. You can also drill a hole in the spring plate just in front of the U-Plate to route the cable. Most often you can just route the cable below the spring plate, as pictured below... When routing your e-brake cable it is easiest to disconnect the cable at the front of the Bus and pull it out through the rear. Trying to pull the drum and disconnecting at the rear brake is a pain in the butt!
