Classic Volkswagen Type 1 and Type 181 have an axle beam up front, and inside that beam are Torsion Leaves. They are also known as Torsion Leaf, Torsions, Torsion Springs, Torsion Slats, Torsion Bars, or the OEM part number for the ball joint application is 131411107A. There is an upper and a lower needed for each vehicle.
Each tube houses ten leaves, four wide and six small, three on top and three on the bottom. They form a hexagonal shape.
One thing to remember when dealing with suspension is AGE. Since the ball joint suspension was born in 1966, these torsion leaves can be up to 57 years old (2023) and have lost spring tension, causing the vehicle to sag over time. So although you might have a stock condition suspension set up, it is a certainty that your Classic VW has lowered over time.
Small note, the Classic Volkswagen Beetle had about six inches or 150mm of a gap between the top of the 165sr15 tire and the fender when it came off the showroom floor.
These torsions come from Volkswagen of Mexico and are NEW, not used. They are offered stock widths up to six inches narrower.
