Classic Volkswagen Type 1's have an axle beam up front, and inside that beam are Torsion Leaves. They are also known as Torsion Leaf, Torsions, Torsion Springs, Torsion Slats, Torsion Bars, or the OEM part number for the link pin application is 111411027. There is an upper and a lower needed for each vehicle.

Each torsion housing contains eight spring leaves—four wide and four narrow—arranged in a square pattern to provide strength, balance, and ride support.

Over time, factory torsion leaves lose their spring tension. Since the link pin suspension debuted in 1949, many of these spring packs are now 70+ years old, leading to sagging ride height and diminished performance—even if the suspension appears stock.

For reference, when new, a Classic Volkswagen Beetle sat with roughly six inches (150mm) of clearance between the top of a 165sr15 tire and the fender. Chances are your VW no longer sits at that factory height.
