Volume 02 — Classic VW Air Ride Installs

A complete reference set for putting a Classic Volkswagen on air. Five chapters cover the link-pin and ball-joint front beams, the swing-axle and IRS rears, and the air management kit that powers them all.

Every chapter ships as a printed Quick Reference inside the kit (2 pages, scannable QR) and lives in full here online — videos, photos, troubleshooting, FAQ.

Link Pin Air Ride Install

Convert the link-pin front beam from torsion-leaf-sprung to floating air ride. Through rods replace the factory leaves, air sleeve shocks bolt in with the supplied upper shock mounts (welded), and the link pins get adjusted to spin free. Skip the welder entirely by pairing with an Airkewld Ultimate / ECObuilt beam.

* Welding only required if you're NOT running an Ultimate / ECObuilt beam — those ship with the upper shock mounts already in place.

Ball Joint Air Ride Install

Convert the ball-joint front beam from torsion-sprung to air ride. Through rods, Delrin spacers, and air sleeve shocks — a true bolt-in install with no welding and no body removal. Set the eccentrics to 90° perpendicular, dial the jam nuts, lift and lay frame on demand.

Swing Axle Air Ride Install

Notch the spring plates using the supplied printable template, reuse the rubber doughnuts, and weld the trailing-arm hangers and bag mounts to the torsion housing. Cycle before final-welding — bag alignment is the whole game. Requires the later perpendicular axle-tube shock flanges.

IRS Air Ride Install

Convert the IRS rear from torsion-sprung to air ride. Re-use the rubber doughnuts so the trailing arm swings free, cut the snubber ball flush and bolt in the supplied urethane bump stop, weld the upper bag mount and lower bag circle. Doetsch Tech shocks with steel spacers complete the kit.

Air Management Install (AMK)

The system that powers every other chapter in this volume. Compressor, pressure switch, tank, 2 or 4 valves, lines, and the leak test that makes it all reliable. Wired, mounted, and tunneled cleanly — 165–200 PSI cycle, every joint soap-tested before you call it done.
