⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - "A complete air ride system that converts your entire Classic VW to air suspension—front and rear—with zero guesswork."
The Right Way to Air Ride a 1969–1977 Volkswagen
The best way to convert a 1969–1977 Classic VW Beetle or Ghia to full air ride is with a Complete PRObuilt Air Ride Kit from Airkewld.
This system replaces the entire torsion-sprung suspension—front and rear—with a properly engineered air ride solution designed to work together as one complete system.
When the PROs say complete, they mean complete.
This kit includes a fully assembled Stage 2 PRObuilt Air Ride Front Axle Beam, a complete IRS rear air ride conversion, and air management—engineered to eliminate mismatched parts, guesswork, and rework.
Every PRObuilt Air Ride Kit is reviewed by a PRO for correctness before it ships — including beam width, air components, brakes, wheels, and suspension fitment.
If anything needs clarification, we’ll contact you before proceeding.
That’s how air ride stays smooth, predictable, and reliable.
Why This Kit Is Different
Front: Stage 2 PRObuilt Air Ride Beam
At the heart of this system is a Stage 2 PRObuilt Air Ride Front Axle Beam, delivered fully assembled and ready to bolt in.
-
Built specifically for ball joint front suspension (1969–1977)
-
Premium PRObuilt components throughout
-
Satin black powder coating
-
Stainless steel hardware
-
Designed for correct geometry and 7.5 inches of usable suspension travel
Front beam installation is typically completed in under 4 hours.
Rear: Complete IRS Air Ride Conversion
This kit converts the IRS rear suspension to air ride using components engineered specifically for independent rear suspension vehicles.
Included rear components:
Rear installation requires welding.
For best results, the PROs recommend removing the body. Body removal typically takes 1–2 hours and greatly improves access, accuracy, and overall installation quality.
Estimated rear install time: 8 hours.
World-Class Ride Quality
With properly engineered air ride front and rear, this system delivers a ride that is smooth, controlled, and predictable—aired up or aired out.
-
Auto-fill system maintains proper pressure
-
When system pressure drops below ~165 PSI, the compressor cycles automatically
-
Ride height stays consistent without constant adjustment
This isn’t just lower—it’s refined.
Ready to Ship, Ready to Roll
Residential or commercial delivery is available, including lift-gate service.

PRO’s Recommendations
Beam Width
For most air ride builds, the PROs recommend a 4-inch narrowed beam, providing the best balance of clearance, suspension travel, and clean fender fitment.
Disc Brakes — Strongly Recommended
Pair this kit with one of our Disc Brake Kits (1969–1977) for improved stopping power and safety.
Want them installed?
Select the Disc Brake Installation (Labor Only) option and the PROs will handle it before shipping.
Install Kit
A complete install kit with new beam bolts and body pads is recommended to save time and ensure a clean installation.
Fitment Notes (Important)
-
Vehicle must be 12-volt
-
Compressor mounting: trunk or under fuel tank (opposite master cylinder)
-
Air tank mounting: trunk or under rear seat (opposite battery)
-
Valve assemblies: glove box or under dash
FAQs
Is welding required?
Yes. The rear IRS air ride conversion requires welding.
Does the body need to come off?
To do it right, yes. Body removal is strongly recommended and significantly improves installation quality.
Can heater boxes still work?
No. With fabrication, it may be possible, but heater functionality is not supported out of the box.
How long does the rear install take?
Approximately 8 hours.
Will this kit work on a 6-volt car?
No. A 12-volt charging system is required.
Can I run one valve for front and one for rear?
You can, but air will transfer side-to-side in corners. One valve per wheel provides better control and stability, similar to a pneumatic sway bar.
Tech Support
Airkewld provides tech support for as long as you own the vehicle.
If non-Airkewld air management components are used, we cannot troubleshoot those systems.
Support plans are available for future owners.
The Bottom Line
This isn’t a collection of parts—it’s a complete, PRO-verified air ride conversion for your 1969–1977 Classic VW.
If you want air ride done once, correctly, and without guesswork, this is the kit.
