Why Narrow a VW Beam?

Classic Volkswagen front suspensions use a torsion beam system that works well in stock form. However, modern upgrades such as disc brakes, drop spindles, and wider wheels can increase track width and affect wheel clearance.

Disc brake conversions can add up to 1.5 inches of track width, while drop spindles add approximately ¾ inch of total track width. When these upgrades are combined with wider wheels, a narrowed beam is often used to restore proper clearance or achieve the desired stance.

Selecting the correct beam width is critical to maintaining a comfortable and predictable driving experience.

If you are unsure which beam width is correct for your build, consult with an Airkewld PRO for guidance.
