Your bus never leaves the driveway. A fully rebuilt 1955–1967 Type 2 steering box ships to you now — off the shelf, not out of a queue. Your worn box comes back to us afterward, in the case we send it in.
No vendor in the world reproduces this steering box. Every one of these is an original ATE or ZF case that we rebuilt from the ground up — same build, same spec, same PRO team as the boxes we do one at a time for customers who mail theirs in. The only difference is that this one is already finished.
Every exchange requires your core back. It's secured by a refundable $800 core charge, collected at checkout and refunded the day your core lands on our bench. Condition does not matter — only that it comes back. Questions? Call 623-518-3537.
How it works
- 1. Order todayPick your finish above. Your box ships from the shelf — no queue, no wait, nothing to send us first.
- 2. It arrives in a casePadded rifle case, and inside with the box a prepaid insured return label already made out to us.
- 3. Swap the boxesNew one in the bus, old one in the case. Same foam, same case, nothing to pack or figure out.
- 4. Ship it — get $800 backDrop it off. Nothing to buy, nothing to print. Refunded the day it reaches our bench.

Your core comes back within 45 days of delivery — not 45 days from installation — and the full $800 goes back to your original payment method. Past 45 days the core charge is kept and the box is yours outright. We send reminders at 14, 30, and 40 days so the window never closes on you by accident.
Fast return bonus
Core in our hands within 21 days and we refund $850 instead of $800. Swap it, ship it, come out ahead.
Condition does not matter. At all.
We expect your core to be worn out — that's the entire reason you're here. Sloppy steering, leaking seals, chewed roller, seized adjuster, cracked case, snapped shaft: send it anyway. We don't grade cores, we don't inspect them for eligibility, and we don't deduct for condition. Your core arrives, we hit refund. The only thing that costs you the $800 is not sending it back at all.
Choose your finish
Both finishes are the same price. You're choosing what your bus left the factory with — not paying for an upgrade.
- Silver Beige DeluxeColumn powder coated Silver Beige, case Satin Black. The factory finish on Deluxe models.
- Satin Black StandardColumn and case both powder coated Satin Black. The commercial finish on Standard models.

That thrust plate is not a reproduction of the original — thicker steel, black-zinc coated, countersunk hardware, and bump ridges we added for clearance. Better than what left Wolfsburg. Insured shipping both directions is included; lower 48. Your box arrives dry — fill with steering box oil before use.
The fine print, in plain English
- Core back within 45 days of delivery — not 45 days from installation. Refund goes out the day it reaches our bench.
- Send the case back too. It's part of the exchange and it goes to the next customer — core and case travel together on the same label.
- Use our case and label. Cores shipped back any other way are received as-is; transit damage isn't covered.
- Two-year warranty on workmanship. If anything we did isn't right, it comes back to us and we fix it.
- Refunds post in 3–5 business days to your original payment method.
- Shelf stock is limited to the boxes we physically hold. When they're out, they're out until cores cycle back.
- Fits 1955–1967 Type 2 Bus only. Lower 48 shipping — outside that, call before ordering.
Not in a hurry?
If your bus is already apart, or you'd rather keep the box that came in your car, mail yours to us instead. Same build, same spec, longer wait, lower price.
