The factory VW wing nut clutch adjuster slips, slaps your knuckles cold, and never holds the same feel twice. The Six Shooter ends that — for good.

Process — Not Parts — Determines Performance

Six ergonomic finger pockets machined right into the body. One pocket = one click of pedal feel — spin it by hand, lock-in grip, no tool required. That is the upgrade in one sentence.

The original German wing nut was a marginal experience even when new — a 5-out-of-10 on its best day. What is on most cars now is a soft replacement that strips, slips, and feels like a week of not shaving. Try adjusting it cold and you have already met the propeller — that knuckle-slap that earns a Go#$&#)$)*_#@)_*$*it!!! We have all been there. So we built the fix and gave it a name we are not embarrassed about.

Why It Works

  • Six finger pockets vs. two wing tabs. Triple the contact points. Your fingers lock into the pocket instead of skidding off a soft tab.
  • Adjusts by hand — cold, hot, or greasy. Contoured grips mean no propeller, no knuckle-slap, no fishing in the toolbox.
  • Hard metal, not mush. No soft import nut that strips the first time you crank on it.
  • Roadside repeatable. Spin it by hand, count the pockets, dial back to the feel you set on the lift. No wrench needed.
  • Pedal target made simple. 1/2" to 3/4" of free play at the top of the pedal — every time, every chassis.

Choose Your Finish

Raw Steel The base. Coat with paint, oil, or anti-seize before install.
Black Zinc Ships ready to install. The crowd favorite.
Stainless Steel Run anti-seize on every adjustment.
Titanium Lightest, hardest, lifetime piece.

Install — Done Right the First Time

We built two install resources because process is what determines performance. Use either. Use both. Send them to the buddy in your garage who skips the lube step.

Top 5 Install Mistakes — Skip These

  • Dirty threads. 50K miles of crud in 7mm × 1.0 threads makes the adjuster bind. Wire-brush or thread-chase first.
  • No lube on the cable. Grease or anti-seize is mandatory. Steel-on-steel galls fast.
  • Forgetting the back face. Lube the bearing surface where the nut meets the clutch lever — that is where binding shows up.
  • Excess grease left on the cable. Wipe it. Wet grease is a grit magnet, and grit is what grinds adjusters.
  • Raw left uncoated. Bare steel surface-rusts in a season. Paint or anti-seize before it goes under the car.

Makes adjusting your clutch cable much easier. If you have ever busted your knuckles and tore up your fingers adjusting with the stock wing nut you will appreciate this. Well worth the money.

I was at the point of installing my new motor in my '64 Deluxe Type 2 and at the recommendation of a friend, I purchased this nifty little contraption. Such a simple design, but what a difference it makes when having to reach through heaterboxes to adjust the clutch. Great idea! Wish I would have thought of it! $$LOL! Thanks and I will pass on the recommendation to the next guy!

I ordered this for my 63 beetle. This cool tool impressed me from the get go. The raw finish looked like a show finish to my eyes. My adjuster was rusted and damaged by years of abuse. These new adjuster was much heavier matieral than the original wing nut and a 100 times easier to use. With what little room there is to reach the clutch adjustment the six shooter is easy to blindly locate and use. Also I can't praise the shipping time enough. I placed the order late on Monday, made a change to the order on Tuesday, products were shipped on Wednesday and at my door by the weeks end. I wish more companies were this efficient.

I am lucky in that I live ~5 miles from Airkewld headquarters and have been able to visit the showroom a couple of times. I picked up my Six Shooter Clutch Adjustment Nut in person, talked to Pete, who is very cordial and knowledgeable, and wound up ordering a complete Gen 2 BAD disc brake system for my '74 Thing. That wasn't an impulse buy; I had researched the brakes, talked to Pete about them before, and planned the in-person pickup of the clutch nut so I could order the brakes in person. My Thing is a project, so the Clutch Adjustment Nut (I bought the black coated one) has not yet been installed, but it is a well-crafted piece which I am confident will work well in place of the factory wingnut.
