Electric fuel delivery the right way. The Airkewld Chassis Fuel Line Kit — Pump pairs modern -6AN braided line and a 40-micron filter with a Facet 40177N keyed-hot electric pump — reliable cold-start pressure, no priming, no mechanical pump worries.
Process — Not Parts — Determines Performance
Mechanical fuel pumps on classic VWs are charming until they fail on the freeway. Diaphragms harden. Push rods wear. Cold-start cranking goes from 2 seconds to 20 seconds to "let me try again in five minutes." The fix is an electric pump that runs only when the key is on, mounted where it has the best chance of pulling clean fuel and pushing it forward without strain.
The Pump kit gives you the Facet 40177N — the same pump every auto-parts chain in America stocks for emergency replacement — mounted on your factory brake-line stand with keyed-hot wiring. Add the 40-micron filter, the braided -6AN line tank-to-engine, and you've got reliable fuel pressure on every key-on, no matter how the car has been sitting.
Facet 40177N Auto-Stocked Nationwide
Keyed Hot Pump Off w/ Engine Off
~3–4 Hours Install Time
Why It Works
- Cold-start fuel pressure, every time. Key on, pump primes, engine fires. No more 30-second crank to refill an empty carb bowl after a week parked.
- Facet 40177N — the industry's most replaceable pump. Stocked at AutoZone, Kragen, PepBoys. If it ever fails on the road, you can buy a replacement at the next exit.
- Keyed-hot wiring. Pump runs only when the ignition is on. Key off = pump off = no risk of pressurizing the system unattended.
- Mounted on the brake-line stand. Uses the chassis hardpoint that's already there — drill two mount holes, bolt the pump, ground to the same stand.
- Sealed pump ports only. Thread sealant goes ONLY on the connections going into and out of the pump. Every other fitting is hydraulic -6AN — sealing those CAUSES leaks.

The Perfect Match
Pair this kit with the Airkewld Stainless Steel Hardline Kit in your engine bay for a truly sealed, vapor-free, fire-proof fuel system — from tank to carbs, no rubber anywhere. Also strongly recommended: the Chassis Inspection Plate Kit (AK-CH-001) — with it installed, fishing the new braided line through the tunnel is 10× easier because you have a direct hand-hole instead of pulling the pedal assembly.

Install — Done Right the First Time
Two resources, same install — because process is what determines performance. Read the printed Quick Reference. Watch the full web guide. Wire the pump to a keyed-hot circuit. Seal the pump ports — and ONLY the pump ports. Blow the line out before every final connection.

Top 5 Install Mistakes — Skip These
- Sealing the wrong fittings. Thread sealant goes ONLY on the connections going INTO and OUT OF the fuel pump. Every other fitting is hydraulic -6AN — sealant on those crud up the seat and CAUSE leaks.
- Wiring to a constant-hot. The pump MUST be on a keyed-hot circuit. Constant-hot = pump runs with the key off = bad day.
- Filter installed backwards. Tank → pump → filter → carb. Backwards = restriction = fuel-starvation symptoms that mimic carb problems for months before you find it.
- Hardline exits not clear. The factory hardline runs INSIDE the chassis tunnel. It MUST be removed (or trimmed and pushed inside the exits) before the new braided line can route through.
- Skipping the line blow-out. Tape the leading end while fishing AND blow the line out with compressed air before any final connection. A grain of chassis grit kills a 40-micron filter inside a week.
