The factory 6mm copper fuel line clamped to rubber at both ends is a sixty-year-old fire risk. The Airkewld Chassis Fuel Line Kit — Basic replaces it tank-to-engine with -6AN braided stainless. No copper. No rubber. No clamps.
Process — Not Parts — Determines Performance
Pull the copper. Cut the rubber. Lose the hose clamps. The Basic kit gives you the foundation that turns a 1960s fuel system into a 2020s one — braided stainless line with -6AN fittings at both ends, routed cleanly through the tunnel and out into the engine bay. If you've already got a filter and a pump you trust, this is your kit.
The stock setup was fine for the fuel that existed in 1965. Today's ethanol-laced pump gas chews through old rubber, hardens hoses, and loosens clamps every season. One leak under the car, one spark, and your build is on a flatbed. The Basic kit eliminates every rubber connection from the tank exit to the engine compartment — replace it once, leak-check it once, drive with confidence.

Why It Works
- No more rubber under the car. Every cracking, ethanol-eaten section between the tank and the engine bay is gone — replaced with one continuous braided line.
- -6AN fittings don't back off. Hose clamps loosen with vibration. AN fittings stay tight for the life of the car.
- Sun-soften and fish. Lay the line in direct sun an hour before you start and it routes through the tunnel like cooked spaghetti. The hard part of this install is solved by daylight.
- Pairs with anything. Keeping your mechanical pump? Running an aftermarket filter you already love? The Basic kit is just the line — bring your own pump and filter and you're done.
- Foundation for the upgrade ladder. Start with Basic now, add a filter later, add a pump after that. Or jump to Deluxe in one move. Choice is yours.

The Perfect Match
Pair this kit with the Airkewld Stainless Steel Hardline Kit in your engine bay for a truly sealed, vapor-free, fire-proof fuel system — from tank to carbs, no rubber anywhere. Also strongly recommended: the Chassis Inspection Plate Kit (AK-CH-001) — with it installed, fishing the new braided line through the tunnel is 10× easier because you have a direct hand-hole instead of pulling the pedal assembly.

Install — Done Right the First Time
Two resources, same install — because process is what determines performance. Read the printed Quick Reference. Watch the full web guide. Sun-soften the line. Blow it out before final connection. You will land a clean, leak-free install on the first pass.

Top 5 Install Mistakes — Skip These
- Hardline exits not clear. The factory hardline runs INSIDE the chassis tunnel. It MUST be removed (or trimmed and pushed inside the exits) before the new braided line can route through. Free, clear front + rear exits are non-negotiable.
- Routing against shift / cables. Inside the tunnel the new line runs near the clutch cable, accelerator cable, and shift linkage. Route AWAY — vibration over miles will rub through the braided sleeve and weep fuel.
- Skipping the line blow-out. Tape the leading end while fishing AND blow the line out with compressed air before any final connection. A grain of chassis grit ruins a fuel system fast.
- Sealing the wrong fittings. -6AN fittings are hydraulic. Thread sealant on these crud up the seat and CAUSE leaks. Snug + firm — not Popeye-tight.
- Skipping the sun-soften. Coil-set memory in braided hose makes fishing a fight. Lay the line in direct sun ~1 hour BEFORE you start — it goes from springy to docile and snakes through the tunnel without binding.
