Modern fuel line plus 40-micron protection. The Airkewld Chassis Fuel Line Kit — Filter swaps every inch of copper and rubber under the car for -6AN braided stainless and adds the inline filter that catches what your tank shed three decades ago.
Process — Not Parts — Determines Performance
Every classic VW gas tank that's been on the road for 50 years has dropped a measurable amount of crud into the fuel system. Rust flakes. Old varnish. The grit that runs through your carb jets and makes you chase "tuning problems" for a season before you realize the problem is upstream.
The Filter kit is the smart-money pick for cars keeping the mechanical pump. Braided -6AN line tank-to-engine, plus a serviceable 40-micron filter you mount where you can actually reach it. Service the filter once a year, leak-check every fitting, and you've eliminated 99% of the fuel-system failures classic VWs are famous for.
40µ Inline Fuel Filter
-6AN Braided Tank-to-Engine
~3 Hours Install Time
Why It Works
- Catches tank crud before it kills your carbs. 40-micron rating is the right balance for a classic VW — fine enough to protect jets, coarse enough not to starve the engine.
- Serviceable mount location. You mount the filter where YOU can reach it — you'll be back here yearly to swap it.
- Verified flow direction. Tank → filter → engine. The arrow on the filter body is non-negotiable — backwards is restriction.
- Smart-money pick for mechanical pumps. If your stock pump still works, you don't need the Pump kit. Add filtration to clean braided line and you've got 95% of the system upgrade for less.
- One more leak-check, one less mystery. When you find clean fuel at the inlet and dirty fuel at the outlet, you know exactly what's happening upstream.

The Perfect Match
Pair this kit with the Airkewld Stainless Steel Hardline Kit in your engine bay for a truly sealed, vapor-free, fire-proof fuel system — from tank to carbs, no rubber anywhere. Also strongly recommended: the Chassis Inspection Plate Kit (AK-CH-001) — with it installed, fishing the new braided line through the tunnel is 10× easier because you have a direct hand-hole instead of pulling the pedal assembly.

Install — Done Right the First Time
Two resources, same install — because process is what determines performance. Read the printed Quick Reference. Watch the full web guide. Mount the filter where you can reach it. Verify flow direction. Sun-soften the line. Blow it out before final connection.

Top 5 Install Mistakes — Skip These
- Filter installed backwards. Every filter has a flow-direction arrow. Tank → filter → engine. Backwards = restriction = fuel-starvation symptoms that mimic carb problems for months before you find it.
- Hardline exits not clear. The factory hardline runs INSIDE the chassis tunnel. It MUST be removed (or trimmed and pushed inside the exits) before the new braided line can route through.
- Skipping the line blow-out. Tape the leading end while fishing AND blow the line out with compressed air before any final connection. A grain of chassis grit kills a 40-micron filter inside a week.
- Filter mounted where you can't reach it. You're servicing this yearly. Mount it somewhere you can actually access with a wrench — future-you will thank present-you.
- Sealing the wrong fittings. -6AN fittings are hydraulic. Thread sealant on these crud up the seat and CAUSE leaks. Snug + firm — not Popeye-tight.
